Season two of Indigenous Voices of Vancouver Island podcast premieres on streaming services

Collaborative podcast returns with a new focus on communities

After a successful first season, 4VI is releasing the second season of the Indigenous Voices of Vancouver Island podcast.

Digging deeper into community stories, the next five-part series focuses on themes of Indigenous women in business, tradition, food sovereignty, building strong communities, and environmental stewardship.

“We are excited to create and launch a second season of Indigenous Voices of Vancouver Island, especially after season one became a popular choice for download among the tourism-focused podcasts available in Canada,” said Brian Cant, VP, Business Impact & Engagement, 4VI. “In season one, we were able to introduce listeners to various Indigenous-owned businesses in the Vancouver Island Region and, now with this new season, we’re diving deeper into community stories. I’m excited for listeners to jump back in.”

About the creators

Written by Trevor Jang, a member of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation and hosted by Tchadas Leo of the Homalco First Nation, the podcast guides listeners around the Vancouver Island Region. Stories from Indigenous communities, businesses, and changemakers are featured as they share their inspirations, culture, and traditions. Hailing from more than 12 Nations, they collectively weave a narrative that showcases how their special relationship with the land finds its place in 21st-century business.

“While our focus has broadened, our goals for this season remain unchanged. I hope to encourage people to visit the Vancouver Island Region to see firsthand the magnificence of this place that I call home and to inspire them with these stories of resilience, achievement, and innovation told by the originators themselves, the Indigenous peoples of the Vancouver Island Region” said Leo.

Indigenous cultures on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island measures roughly 500 km tip to tip and is home to more than 50 First Nations within the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw peoples. Each Nation has a profound cultural connection to the misty rainforests, mountains, salmon rivers, and rocky windswept shores of their Traditional Territories. With funding from the Province of British Columbia’s Targeted Regional Tourism Development Initiative Fund, the project aims to educate both locals and visitors on the diversity of cultures and experiences in the Vancouver Island Region
